COVID19
During the Covid19 pandemic we will remain open to customers but we are limiting access to the buildings.  We will be taking precautions such as keeping the door locked with a sign on the outside that reads "Please call prior to entering",  "We are not sick", "We are limiting contact with people and customers",  Call or text: Ryan (250-938-0972) for access to the building or to make an appointment...

Thanks for understanding

Sincerely
Ryan Zaworski

ADSB???

2/8/2020

A customer of mine has purchased a uAvioni tail Beacon for me to install into his piper arrow so he can be ADSB compliant while flying into the United States.  I ran into some difficulties regarding the paper work and I decided to contact Transport Canada for help with installing the new component.  I will Copy and Paste the E-mail conversation for your information.  Please comment if anyone has successfully installed one of these components in an aircraft other than a Cessna 172...
Thank you..

MY E-mail to transport Canada
A customer of mine has a Piper Arrow and Wants ADSB installed.  He has purchased a unit that gets installed into the tail nav bulb position.  The P/N of the unit is UAV-1002183-001 its a TSO'd part and looks quite nice.

The question is have is can I install this unit into the aircraft.  here is the information on the unit I'm talking about. https://uavionix.com/support/tailbeacon/

It looks like it is only approved to be installed in cessna 172's according to the STC.  The FAA has issued a Memorandum with the Subject "Installation Approval for ADS-B OUT Systems"  ..http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgPolicy.nsf/0/1fdea629cd029a7c86257f7900601653/$FILE/AFS-360_2016-03-02.pdf

In the Memorandum the FAA grants permission to install this system in any aircraft of similar type as long as it meets the conditions in the memorandum.

I'm not confident I can install it into the piper Arrow in Canada with reference that Data????

What do you suggest?

Thanks for the Help..

Transport Canada's Reply

Hi Ryan,

Everything is going well.

You are correct unfortunately you  cannot install this unit without a Canadian STC and give it a maintenance release. Your customer may approach a Design Approval Representative (DAR) to have it approved here is a link for the DAR search https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/2/CAS-SAC/dars.aspx?lang=eng . I found that the manufacture is looking for volunteers to collect data for a Canadian STC here is the link  https://copanational.org/en/2019/11/21/uavionix-needs-canadian-volunteers/.  This may  make work for your customer also since he already has the product.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Take care,
